In the Airbus A320 series, the engine vibration procedures differ between the NEO and CEO variants, particularly in the thresholds for vibration alerts and the content available in the Flight Crew Operating Manual (FCOM) and Quick Reference Handbook (QRH).

Engine Vibration Procedures

1. Notification: The initial notification of high engine vibration appears as an advisory on the ECAM, prompting the flight crew to refer to the “High Engine Vibration” procedure.

2. Vibration Thresholds:

NEO: The vibration threshold for both N1 and N2 vibrations is set at 5.0 units.

CEO: The threshold is set at 6.0 units for N1 and 4.3 units for N2.

3. Procedures in FCOM and QRH:

NEO Aircraft: The FCOM contains more detailed or additional information regarding the high engine vibration procedure compared to what is summarized in the QRH. This might include more comprehensive steps or considerations for handling high vibration alerts.

CEO Aircraft: Similar procedures exist, but the threshold values and potentially the detailed steps might differ slightly.

For the NEO variant, the FCOM includes specific instructions or data that are not present in the QRH. This suggests that pilots may need to reference the FCOM for a complete understanding of the procedure, especially when encountering unique or complex scenarios related to high engine vibration.

ECAM Advisory

The ECAM system will display an advisory for high engine vibration, and the flight crew is expected to follow the procedure outlined in the QRH. However, given the additional information in the FCOM for the NEO variant, it’s recommended for the flight crew to also consult the FCOM when safe and practical to do so.
